Ruboni forest walk (3-4 hours)

Introduction:

Ruboni forest walk is 3-4 hours trek conducted in a community natural forest neighboring Rwenzori mountains national park, north of River Mubuku. This forest shares the same habitat as the park including the tress/ plants, birds, chameleons, snakes and sometimes primates. it is possible to do the forest walk on arrival or en-route to the next destination. majority like to add it on their travel between Kibale and Queen Elizabeth National parks.

Walking in this forest is like walking in the park itself. The only difference is that, the price for this forest walk is lower than entering the national park is lower.well trained community guides take guests on this trail. during the trek, you have a chance of spotting the three horned chameleons, snakes, unique birds sch as the Rwenzori Turaco, blue monkeys and sometimes chimps.

All the money generated from this walk goes to the community to support conservation and community development initiatives.

Activity description of Ruboni forest walk

Arrive at Rwenzori trekkers campsite, meet your guide and set up for the walk. You will be moving along river Mubuku on the northern bank. In the early part of the trail, you have high chances of spotting the three horned chameleons. the trek is mainly gentle sloping allowing you to walk reluctantly. you will have great opportunities of viewing the portal peaks and other great mountain scenery.

Generally, the trail takes through beautiful territories of the local coffee, banana, and other crop farms and woodlots and finally enters into the community forest zone where you may walk for over three hours. In the forest, you will mainly be under beautiful canopy with a lush undergrowth of different trees and plants along the beautiful river flowing from the Rwenzori glaciers. wile you trek, you will be looking for chances of spotting wildlife that is unique to the area, in a background of beautiful forest sounds amidst the sound of water falls and rapids on the several rivers.

as you exit the forest, return to the community visitors center to continue with your journey to the next destination or to your lodge within Ruboni village, for dinner and overnight. options include; Ruboni community camp, Rwenzori Homestay, Snow heights and other lodges on a list of ten perfect lodges of Ruboni village
