Impressive Rwenzori day-excursions

Introduction:

Rwenzori landscape offers the most unique scenery experience of all parks in Uganda. These day trips are your best options to explore these mountains in the shortest time and lowest budget. From queen Elizabeth national park, you will take an opportunity to trek these rugged mountains foothills, visiting the people, wildlife and legends of these ranges that profoundly overlook queen Elizabeth national park.

Take this opportunity to explore beyond the wildlife safari and discover the mountains of the moon off the beaten path. The excursions go through the valley that is possibly the most beautiful part of these mountains. You will be hosted by the Bakonzo people, the dominant tribe of Rwenzori mountains.

Many enchanting traditional cultural encounters await you during these memorable excursions. You will be meeting the village iron craftsmen who will share the story of traditional melting and molding of local rocks to make iron tools as they were done before the introduction of modern tools since the year 500AD. Depending on the time you have; these excursions take from three hours to three days treks into the mountains.

Excursions

Rwenzori mountains boda-boda excursion: This 3-4 hours boda-boda safari in the mountain side is a showcase of the local life. It allows you to mix with locals like never before. You will meet the local farmers, households and ethnic story tellers of Rwenzori ranges indigenous tribe. the safari takes you to Kiburara local fruit market, the Bakonzo hero monument at Kagando village, Musasa traditional oil processing from the local indigenous plants ending at the coffee and vanilla farms where you will participate in the farming processes

Rwenzori heritage safari excursion. On this 4-6-hour mountain excursion you explore the true heritage of the Rwenzori mountains. You will witness the traditional Iron mines to see how the indigenous tribes turned local rocks into usable tools and weapons before the invention of modern tools. The safari involves participating with the locals in the traditional daily life settings; mines, farms, homes and markets. On arrival at “Buthale” Hill, you will be taught how to identify the iron rocks and how these rocks were turned into iron back in the year 500AD.

Requirements:

Exclusively explored on boda-boda (motorcycle) to give a unique 360° view of the mountains. The price includes; a local guide, packed lunch, transport and payments at all activity locations. The guest will be required to carry own water, a day pack and trail snacks.

  • Two nights three days Rwenzori heritage trek following the footsteps of the three Bakonzo heroes in the Rwenzori mountains foothills.
