Rwenzori Climbing and Gorilla tracking (8 days)

A trip that takes you across Uganda's nature, culture and landscapes. From the central Uganda Lake Victoria basin, to the rift valley and southwestern Kigazi highlands leading to the land of a thousand hills. For eight days, from Kampala, Uganda's capital to Ginseng-Rwanda, this trip reaches four national parks of Uganda and a cross section of cultural communities around Uganda. in a good detail, the trip brings you to explore Rwenzori mountains for 3/4 days up to 3962m. above sea level and then tracking the mountain Gorillas in Bwindi forest. on your way, you will pass through Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Echuya Forest. The Trip ends in Gisenyi, near lake Kivu, northern Rwanda.

  • Day 1: Kampala to Rwenzori basecamp

    Arrive at Rwenzori Basecamp: Today, you will be picked and transferred to Rwenzori Basecamp. The drive will take around 6 hours. En-route break at Garden restaurant Fort portal. Dinner and overnight at Ruboni community camp.
  • Day 2: Nyakalengijo – Nyabithaba:

    On the first trekking day, after a briefing with the local porters and guides, you will trek from 1646 meters to Nyabithaba hut at 2632m Dinner and overnight at the Nyabithaba Camp. (5hrs)
  • Day 3: Nyabithaba - John Mathe – Bujuku

    On the second trekking day, After a very early breakfast, leave Nyabitaba and take the central circuit loop anticlockwise. The trail leads to the crossing point of rivers Mubuku and Bujuku. You will reach Nyamuleju hut at 3000 meters a simple shelter among rocks. It’s better to hike for the other 3 hours and reach John Matte hut at 3414 meters and spend the night. (7 hrs)
  • Day 4: John Mathe – Bujuku - John Mathe

    The third trekking day will lead us to Bujuku hut passing through the Bigo bog where there is an old shelter. Bujuku hut is located at 3962 meters near the Bujuku Lake in a valley among 3 mountains: Mt Stanley, Mt Baker, and Mt Speke. Bujuku is the highest you will go on this trip. After spending some time taking the views, return to John Mathe for an overnight (8hrs)
  • Day 5: John Mathe – Nyakalengijo

    Early morning after breakfast, descend backwards returning to Nyakalengijo base camp. You will take lunch at Nyabitaba then proceed to The base camp for dinner and overnight
  • Day 6: Nyakalengijo - Bwindi:

    Have an early breakfast at, after which transfer to Bwindi via Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will be driving through the park on Ishasha road with chances of spotting wildlife which may include the tree climbing lions. We will be heading to the gate where the gorilla tickets have been secured. Arrive late afternoon for a relaxed dinner and overnight at the lodge of choice.
  • Day 7: Bwindi Gorilla tracking:

    Today is the mighty gorilla tracking day. After breakfast take your packed lunch and head to the briefing point. After a briefing by park rangers, embark on 30 minutes – 8 hours trek to find the Mountain gorillas. The tracking starts at the area where the gorillas spent the previous day/night. On sighting gorillas, you will be allowed a full hour with them. You then retire for dinner and overnight.
  • Day 8: Bwindi – Gisenyi

    After an early breakfast transfer from the lodge to Kisoro at Kyanika Border crossing to “the land of a thousand hills”. You will then drive through to Gisenyi near Lake Kivu
