Kazinga channel boat cruise and wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth national park.

During a trip to Uganda, Kazinga channel boat cruise is a great opportunity of seeing wildlife. It is a paradise of most animals and travelers alike. The cruise either starts at Katunguru or Mweya peninsular. You will prove that a wildlife safari day in this park is more than enough to fill your wildlife ambitions once you include this boat cruise opportunity.

In this one day, you will be able to explore wildlife on land by car and on water by boat. The park is made up of an assortment of landscapes that include wetlands, extended Savannah, forests, lakes and the rolling green hills.  In this paradise, during the wildlife safaris, you will have opportunities to roam the plains, forests, wetlands and cruise the waters during the famous Kazinga channel boat cruise, a favorite of many travelers.

Queen Elizabeth National park is located on the main tourist route of western Uganda. On the day before the Kazinga channel boat cruise and wildlife safari, you arrive to your accommodation at the park to spend the first night at your lodge of choice. Kazinga channel boat cruise locations can be well accessed from all lodges in this park.

Doesn’t matter where you arrive from. You can travel from most parts of Uganda to arrive to Queen Elizabeth national park by evening time.  On arrival, meet your guide and arrange everything for the wildlife safari experience the next day. Dinner and overnight and early to bed.

Those who will be traveling from near will be at an added advantage of the afternoon on the first night where you can take a chance of an evening boat cruise at Katunguru or night game drive safari inside the park.

Today you will be participating in a boat cruise on Kazinga channel and game drives. It is the long waited day of looking for the safari on water by boat and on land by safari car. Wake up for early breakfast at 6:30 am. Your car will be waiting for you to leave for the morning game drive. The park gate opens and 7:00am. Depending on the location of your lodge, you can board the car any time between 6:30 and 6:55 am.

The first activity is the wildlife safari drive in Kasenyi tracks. Here you will explore the open Savannah in the northern part of the park. Kasenyi is most famous for large herds of wildlife. In this area, you will be looking for the cats as they do their morning hunt. The spectacular sunrise over the horizon meets plains as you watch the grazing game in the Savannah.

In intervals, you shall be taking picture moment breaks when you reach scenic or areas. At 9:30am, after a good time with the game, you will head out from Kasenyi.  This is the best time to go and meet the people. You can visit any village close to the park, to take cultural moments or to have lunch with them. The villages on the list include; Kikorongo, the fishing villages, katunguru, Kasoga community or Lake Katwe where you can also do the traditional salt mining tour. Some villages like Kasoga or Katunguru, the community can take you through their local fishing life by boat.

you can gift yourself with a world class lunch at Mweya safari lodge. However, if you prefered a different location for lunch, after lunch, you will continue to Mweya peninsula, pay your boat cruise fees in the visitor information center and be ready at the dock by 2:30 pm. The Mweya afternoon boat cruise starts at 3:00pm. You will go on the boat trip for two hours up to 5:00pm and return to the dock.

On the boat, you will see a good variety of wildlife ranging from the birds, small and large game. Common site is buffalo’s, hippos, elephants, the multitudes of birds, the fishing eagle and all other games based on the luck of the day. You may also see some crocodiles in Queen Elizabeth national park water bodies, though they are scarce and a bit shy hiding in the lower waters.

On the boat, and as part of the boat payment, You will have an experienced ranger guide to interpret the wildlife you find and or tell you the background of the entire National park during the boat cruise. After the Kazinga channel boat cruise, it is the best time to return to your lodge as you look for the evening game. On a lucky evening, you may spot some cats as they do their evening hunt. In the evening take the well-deserved dinner in your accommodation as you prepare to go to the next destination tomorrow.
