Gorilla tracking experience in Bwindi forest (4 days)

Overview

You will be spending time with the gorillas in their natural habitat to live their life for one hour. The secrets of Mountain gorillas, the giants of Bwindi forest, well explored with the guidance of experienced guides, rangers. On a four days journey, you will visit the Mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. After finding the gorillas, you will stay with them for up to one hour learning their behaviors. After the memorable gorilla encounter, you will relax on Lake Bunyonyi as you meet the local people amidst the wonderful scenery, the birding experience, canoe, and water or cultural tours in the neighborhood of one of the arguably deepest lakes in Africa, as you will listen to the guides during the stay. In Uganda, gorillas can be tracked in the two national parks of Mgahinga and Bwindi, with 13 different groups that are habituated for the gorilla tracking experience. One day’s ticket can only allow you to track one of these groups.

  • Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi

    Early morning transfer from Kampala on the 8-10 hours drive through Maska-Mbarara road to Kabale. After Mbarara, you will be driving on a scenic landscape over the adulated hills of Kigezi, locally known as the Switzerland of Uganda. Basing on where the ticket has been acquired, you will transfer to the accommodation booked. Arrive at dinner and overnight at Ruhija gorilla friends resort
  • Day 2: Gorilla tracking

    With packed lunch and water from the hotel, you will leave after a full breakfast to head to the briefing point. Briefing starts at 8:00am from the park rangers to tell you the plan of the day with the dos and don’ts during the gorilla tracking day. Tracking may take from 1 to 8 hours, starting from where the gorillas spend the night before. After finding the targeted group, you will spend one hour with them as you take pictures and learning the background of your new gorilla friends. After spending the time, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Ruhija gorilla friends resort
  • Day 3: Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi

    Take a late breakfast and then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Basing on your location, it will take between 2-4 hours to arrive at Bunyonyi. On arrival, take a boat to the island where you will spend a night. Today you will explore the lake and surrounding cultures. Options include; a canoe tour, visiting the local market, visiting the Batwa community on the mainland, swimming lessons, or participating in community projects with the local children/ women while you learn the local life around Lake Bunyonyi. After a long day, return to dinner and overnight at Byonamagara lodge
  • Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala

    Wake up early morning to catch up with the birds. Lake Bunyonyi is famous for bird watching. Over 200 species of birds can be found here including common and endemic species. The morning is also a good picture moment as you catch the sunrise over the lake. Return to breakfast then checkout to return to Kampala. On the journey to Kampala, you will make stopovers to take the scenery, coffee, or visit the crafts markets at several places including the great lakes museum, Igongo cultural center, the equator, or other roadside markets. Arrive in Kampala late afternoon for dinner and overnight in your hotel.
