The trail is mainly wilderness camping with camping facilities. Bukurung trail, feeds into the central circuit trail where the peaks are accessed. At three camps, shelters have been established where you pitch tour tent while at other three camps you pitch a tent on the open ground as you take mountain views.

  • Day 1: Omukorukumi Base Camp - Kasanzi Camp

    Trekking starts from Omukorukumi Base camp of Bukurungu trail at 1539m. Trekking will mainly be in the grassland zone, the lowest of the five vegetation zones of Rwenzori, dominated by the mountain villages. Common sight will include local way of life, farming, education cetres, markets, homesteads, farms, local architecture on the gentle hills and valleys of Rwenzori offering one of the best landscape views. Later in the day, enter the forest canopy and arrive to Kasanzi camp 2411m. for our night stay.
  • Day 2: Kasanzi Camp - Kambeho Camp

    After breakfast, start trekking from Kasanzi camp to Kambeho Camp 3286m. Kambho means cold in the local dialect. This is the second camp on Bukurungu trail. The trek is mainly through afro-montane forest, the Bamboo zone and ending in the heather vegetation zone. Trek for 5km and have an access to phone network connection at Rwabitakuli ridge, with relaxing views. You will then head a breaking point at Rwigho camp (3048m) before you can proceed on the next 5km trek to today’s destination. Common site during the trek are the panoramic views of the crater lakes area below Rwenzori Mountains, forest canopy habitat, rivers and bogs with chances of spotting birds, primates and chimps. Arrive later in the afternoon to pitch your camp at Kambeho (3286m)
  • Day 3: Kambaho Camp - Lame Camp

    After breakfast, start the trek to Lame Camp. Lame is the name of the river that form the boarder of Uganda and Congo in the Rwenzori Mountains. The trek is mainly through the heather zone mixed with bamboo and forest patches. Common site on the trail are the beautiful flowers, unique vegetation such as the lobelia, and the unique Rwenzori insects and bugs. On todays trek, you will rich the highest point of this trail (3985m.) where you will view and slope to the Congo side of the mountains. Later after passing Lake Mughuli, arrive at lame Camp (3536m) located in the heather forest close to Lame River, on the boarder of Uganda and Congo.
  • Day 4: Lame Camp - Bigo Camp

    After an early breakfast, start the trek to Bigo camp (3442m) the trek is entirely in heather vegetation zone of Rwenzori Mountains. Common site are the Rwenzori alpine vegetation fields, extended views, sunbird sound as they parched on the tall standing lobelia, and some red rivers. With The trail goes south along the Uganda Congo boarder offering scenic views over the beautiful ridges, wetlands and tussocks fields. Take the beautiful views over Bukurungu Lake and the beautiful mountains on Congo side. You then slope to Bigo where you will set camp before dinner and overnight.
  • Day 7: Bigo Camp - Nyabithaba - Nyakalengijo Base Camp

    After an early breakfast trek From Bigo Camp (3525m). to the base camp via Nyabitaba Camp (2632 m). Descend through the heather zone as you take views of the Mountains Ranges. Have lunch at Omukomujungu and continue to Nyabitaba and the base camp for a relaxing moment at Ruboni community camp before transferring to the next destination or to one of the Hotels at Rwenzori Base Camp -Nyakalengijo.
